Early Halloween Festivities

Hi everyone!

We went to a couple of Halloween events this past weekend and I have some pictures to share. I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween. We usually wait until the last minute to get costumes and then rush like chickens with our head cut off the night of. When we both worked, it was a race to get home, make dinner, eat, get dressed all before the trick or treaters started coming (we always had some during our meal). So the holiday just stresses me out. We were ahead of the curve a little this year. Avi is wearing Bri's first costume, a ladybug. Bri mentioned wanting to be Elsa but once I told her there would be thousands of those (and that's perfectly ok! One of our good friends made a dress for her daughter and even came up with the pattern!), she wanted to be a vampire. We already had bat wings from the Chippewa Nature Center so we went with that. I told her she's a vampire bat. Surprisingly, she's one of the only few bats I've seen and even at the Nature Center, I didn't see anyone with the wings. Grandma is making her an Elsa dress so she can dress up as Elsa for her birthday :).

This was Trick-or-treat around the track at SVSU. There were a million people but it was spread out so I didn't have a panic attack. We got some candy and left. We didn't do much there but I think Bri still enjoyed herself.
Having a *little* candy

Mom's got her candy tax too!
We also went to the Chippewa Nature Center. They had a jack-o-lantern lit trail that was pretty cool and a little obstacle course. Inside the center, way too much chaos, we didn't stay long. They had face painting too so Bri got a purple bat :).

She crawled through there with those wings lol

Oh, Avi haha

One gripe I have about Halloween is that it sometimes makes me frustrated with fellow humans. The cutting in line, the shoving, the not having your kids say trick or treat or even thank you. We normally avoid events because of the crowds. We don't do them too well but Bri's at an age where she needs to do these activities so we have to suck it up and go. We are learning too! lol

Parents, it's our responsibility to teach our kids manners. Have them say trick-or-treat and thank you and if they can't, we should do it for them. Common courtesy. Let me step off that soap box.

I'm not sure what we are doing the actual day of Halloween but I'm glad we got out there a little bit. My weather app said it's supposed to snow. Let me take a minute to cry about snow in October. I'm gonna try really hard not to complain about cold weather seeing as no one MADE me move here but I will mention temps and conditions because I can! Haha.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mother-in-law, Andrea!

Happy Halloween everyone. Thanks for reading.

  1. I'm so happy to see you guys doing your best to have your kids enjoy and have a good time always. I have to say that since we don't celebrate Halloween in PR you guys learned the tradition yourselves. I'm proud of you guys. The girls look like they have lots of fun.
